SEXYBLACK EXCLUSIVE: SEXYBLACK Interview with NASRI from MAGIC!

As promised, months ago, here is my EXCLUSIVE interview with my boy, Nasri, from MAGIC!

Nasri has been one of my best friends for almost 15 years.  This year has been so crazy for him and his bandmates, Magic!  In April, before all the Globetrotting, he came home for a showcase.  He sat down with me in our normal stomping ground, his basement, and I got the exclusive on how he feels about being a member of a band, what the future holds and even dropped a couple of impromptu performances of NEW Magic! material as well as a piece of a classic Nasri throwback.

Please keep in mind this was at like 1:30 in the morning and we were both dead tired.

Check it out... and don't forget to buy the album "Don't Kill The Magic" on iTunes:

Check out my favourite acoustic performance of "Rude" by Magic!:

Also check out the lyric video for the new single which is also my favorite on the album, "Let Your Hair Down".  The video is an ode to God's most wondrous creation, Woman.  Ladies, watch until the very end, thank me later:

SEXYBLACK SUGAR BEATS WORLD PREMIERE EXCLUSIVE: NASRI -- You Deserve Better Music Video!!!

Ladies and Gentlemen, over the years, I have been blogging about one of my best friends, Nasri, who has achieved great things over the last few years.  After helping to revive New Kids On The Block, he has won Grammys writing and producing for Chris Brown and Justin Bieber (along with his partner in crime, Adam Messinger).  Not only is he responsible for Justin Bieber's current single, "As Long As You Love Me", and Chris Brown's new single, "Don't Judge Me", Nasri has finally blessed us with his own single, "You Deserve Better".

I know music.  It's been my life.  It always will be.  When I met Nasri, 12 years ago, he was a crazy, young dude.  We became fast friends with our common love of music, Monopoly, and the ladies, among other things.  He is a genuine soul, a brilliant writer, and one of the best, most unique voices I've heard in years.  Anyone who knows me, knows I have an extensive music collection, and lots of favourites.  Not many people know that Nasri has at least two songs that are in my top 10 of lyrical masterpieces.  If you think you know him from listening to his work with Bieber or Brown, please know that that work is the tip of a VERY deep iceberg.  I've heard amazing songs that he's written for himself and others (like Jojo) over the years that were potent enough to evoke the deepest emotions on first listen.

That being said, I've had my hands on this for a few weeks, and have been dying to show you, but he told me I had to wait for the official release.  Well that is today!!!!  Everyone, I am so proud to present the first video release (since Nasri has gone stateside -- anyway) from Nasri's upcoming EP.  Please enjoy "You Deserve Better".

Also, check out Nasri's new website:  http://nasrionline.com/

Nasri Bio:

So, Nas also shot the video for "Smooth" last week, so look out for that.  Thanks to everyone for checking this out.

JAVIER FINALLY RETURNS with his new album "Come Through For You"

The album is in stores today, and features my boy Nasri on backing vocals on the song that he and his writing partner Adam Messinger wrote called "How Many People Can Say That".
A lot of people remember Javier as the first winner of The Voice.  I have been a Javier fan for the past 10 years.  He had a deal and put out two albums.  As a true testament that the labels don't recognize REAL talent, eventually he was dropped.  This was a sad day for music.  Thanks to The Voice, his career has been resurrected.  To celebrate, since there is no NEW video, I'd like to share with you the first time I ever heard and saw Javier.   Ladies and Gentlemen, I present "CRAZY".
Be sure to pick up the album.  One of the best storytelling songs of all times (guarantee to bring a tear to your eye), "OK, Here's The Truth" has been also resurrected and found a home on "Come Through For You".  You will love it.

Michael got one, now, my boy, NASRI might get one...

Congrats, NASRI, on your TWO nominations for your work on Chris Brown's Graffiti and Justin Beiber's My World 2.0.  I'm proud of you, man.

SEXYBLACK TUESDAY: Re-Release (sort-of): My Girl, IVANA SANTILLI

Ivana's new album, Santilli, is a re-packaging of sorts of her best album to date, TO.NY.  On Santilli, Ivana returns to the club with some new joints "Your Girl Tonight" and "Letting Go" along with six tracks from the poorly-marketed TO.NY from last year (a couple of the TO.NY tracks have been remixed).
If you like club joints, pick it up.  But if you want Ivana Santilli doing what she absolutely does best, RUN, don't walk, to the store and pick up TO.NY which is a practically flawless, sensitive, amazing album featuring the amazing production, writing, and background skills of The Messengers (Adam Messinger and NASRI).  Both records are available in stores now giving you a choice:  If you like Club joints, Belly, and Danny Fernandes (never return to this blog [j/k]) and go buy Santilli.  If you like urban music with feeling and amazing lyrics and performances, buy TO.NY.  Or just buy whichever album you think has the hottest cover.  At this point, I couldn't decide, so I have both.

THROWBACK VIDEO(s) OF THE MONTH: Spread My Wings -- Troop

Troop was one of many five-man groups fashioned after New Edition.  What made Troop stand out was:  1. Their unique hairstyles, and 2.  This joint right here.  In a lot of educated circles, Spread My Wings is considered one of the anthems of the New Jack Swing era of the 90's.  Troop's biggest selling single brought them international success and is one of my favorites of ALL time.  The video is sick, the choreo is off the chain.  Where are they now?  I don't know about the rest of them, but Steve Russell, the lead singer on Spread My Wings is in L.A.  He is currently writing songs with Nasri.

Troop's Jackson 5 cover (the only J5 cover that is better than the original) "All I Do Is Think of You" after the jump.
